Ascot, Perth — 5th and 6th May,2022.

THURSDAY 5th MAY

Yesterday we drove over two hours to Bunbury south of Perth to meet up and have lunch with an old Mate of PTs from his Whangarei days,  a former neighbour. They hadn’t seen each other since the early sixties. Spent about three hours with Clive and Janet then drove back to our house. Long way to go for lunch. Beautiful day but cold wind hence wearing the warmer gear.

This sculpture is an Aboriginal man made of rusting iron.

FRIDAY 6th MAY

Today we spent the morning in Kings Park Perth in the Botanical Gardens before we handed back our rental car at 1.00pm

Entrance to the gardens.

Perth City on the Swan River, taken from up in Kings Park.

From the park looking over the north facing shore towards the CBD. Main bridge crossing the Swan although there are lots of bridge crossings.

We were watching a training session in the park with the dogs that care for the blind.

A big Boab tree that had been transferred recently into the park from another area. Amazing, had a picture of it being transported on the back of a huge truck. You can see a fence surrounding it which I presume is to protect it until it re establishes itself. Gardeners are caring for it.

Looking across where the two rivers meet Swan coming down in front of the CBD on the left and the Canning coming down from the right and becoming one to travel down to Fremantle and out to sea.

We think these sculptures were made of wood.

Smile at the crocodile.

Looking across the park to the City. The lawns were immaculate.

Above and below.
The pond further down through the Park.

We drove around on the roads through the park. A memorial drive with individual names of fallen soldiers under each of these spectacular gum trees with their smooth white bark.

We have finished our time with our little car and now back at the depot handing it in. Not many cars in store at the moment but wanted to show their set up. The whole fleet are painted white with the black and yellow  markings. They are all so tidy and clean no damaged paint work, all very shiny and absolutely immaculate and looked like a fleet of brand new cars. The van is the airport shuttle which we hopped onto. We were making out we were going to the domestic airport so we could get a lift back to our house which is only a 20 minute walk down the road from the airport. The rental company is called (nobirds.com.au). We were told the name came from when the company (which has been going for fifty plus years) wouldn’t employ women and when the womens rights policy changed they were allowed to keep their long term name. They do have women working there now and I must say the team are all very efficient. We would really recommend this company.

Relaxed at the house for the rest of the day after getting back about 2.00pm. We have been invited by our hosts to have dinner with them on Sunday, our last night with them before we pick up our motorhome.
