Coral Bay to Exmouth, 20th May, 2022 - 153kms

We left this morning at 8.00am and traveled up to Exmouth arriving at 10.00am. Not a long travelling day.

Our last photos yesterday at Coral Bay. Note the young girl kneeling in the water reading a book.

Didn’t do a blog last night but took these above two photos of Coral Bay with the tide in as in yesterdays blog the tide was right out. I’m still following that man.

2nd  day at Coral Bay,  just had a relaxing day most enjoyable. Great camp well maintained and very big sites not close to anyone. Peoples Park.

First go at driving the truck

Seeing more of these big termite houses. Amazes me how such small creatures can build these.

Have now arrived in Exmouth. Too early to book into camp as only just after 10.00am,  so went for a drive out to lighthouse bay. They tell us it is a great spot to watch the sunset go down up by the lighthouse. Don’t think we will go back tonight as a little cloudy. Here World War II came to the West Cape when the Japanese air raids came in May 1943. There were almost 800 Australian servicemen on the Cape at the time.

Standing in the same spot looking down to the bay below.

Looking out to the tip of the Exmouth peninsular. Might go out there tomorrow. Taken from the lighthouse. Up about the middle of this coast there still lies a shipwreck on the reef. As below.

Further along the road back towards Exmouth we went down to the beach where the shipwreck was.

The wreck is just showing above water as it is high tide. Would look better at low tide. Maybe when we go back that way tomorrow to go down to see Cape Range National Park we could go back and have another look.  This wreck was the SS Mildura which early on the morning of 13th March 1907 was stuck fast on the reef loaded up with cattle. In fact, that the ship seemed firmly wedged on the reef the crew stayed on board for several days until another ship came by to take the crew off the boat. But then there was the cattle, which were released hoping that they would swim to shore. Unfortunately they didn’t make it.

Now this is what you would call a big prawn.

We are having two nights in Exmouth.  We will drive down through the Cape Range National Park tomorrow and spend time down there. We will be leaving the West Coast on Sunday and heading inland which we are looking forward to. PT in his element, he has good TV reception tonight so has been watching the Aussie League. We haven’t been getting very much reception but don’t miss it. My blog keeps me busy in the evenings.
