Exmouth to Nanutarra Roadhouse 22nd May, 2022 - 277kms

I believe it’s somebody,s birthday today. We left Exmouth at about 9.30am. We had to decide whether we drive one big day or split it into two to reach our next destination. Decided not to take on too much in a day and have split the travelling over two days. As you will see in the photos we have stopped about half way just at a Roadhouse for the night. We did get here rather early but had a few things and phone calls to organise. Good opportunity to do those sort of things having an afternoon in the van. Especially as it is continuously pouring with rain. Worst weather so far but good as it was always going to be a nothing day as no stops to see on the way. Hence no photos of interest. So I thought that I would just take all the different contrast landscapes we saw today. Some will say boring but I find it all fascinating especially when you start getting into the inland / outback. Usually in a days trip it is much the same all the way up till now. Very flat, and little change. We saw all different colours today. As below. So today is just about the colours. In other words I am just trying to make something out of nothing. We have now left the western coast with its sandy beaches, turquoise waters and many sand dunes. We enjoyed these areas very much but now heading inland for five nights which we are really looking forward too  as it’s good to get into the outback more.we are back on the coast again

Last night in Exmouth.

This Exmouth camp is very nice huge large sites as you can see. All designed to take the full rigs people have. That is caravans, awnings out from the caravans, their cars and a lot have a small dingy upside down on the roof of their car. So when a motorhome arrives it is lost in the space. But good, as you don’t have close neighbours.

Woke up early today just as the sun was rising.

Before we left Exmouth went down to see the town beach which wasn’t far from our camp. Thought we better check it out. It looked a good beach and there was a lot of work going on under the Palm trees. Can’t see it but it looked like lots of new walkways and park areas being developed.

Looking north along the beach. Weather looking dodgy way up north as you will see on the photos how that comes down later during our road trip today.

We have spent weeks travelling along very flat areas. Today we had a few little hills to go over. Part of the land scape was strange with these long narrow, you could say big humps to cross over.

I am really only trying to point out all the different colours in the landscape we went through today.

One minute it’s red then shortly later it’s this lovely creamy coloured tussock grass.

This shows these long small hills we keep crossing over. You just get to the top and you are immediately back down to flat land again. Quite strange. This is like large rolling beach waves which just go continuously on and on and on.

Goodness a little hill🤔

And more

More of my favourite grasses. All the different colours of green.

We crossed over this river just before we reached the Roadhouse. The water would be this colour from all the red soil that you see. Just like the red cliffs. There is a track down the back if one wants to take a walk but with this now continuous rain that won’t be happening.

We have now hit rain

Pulled into Nanutarra Roadhouse.

Stopping over night with the big three rig Road Trains. They have a camping area around at the back.

Parking up, for the night. Rain easing.

PT here, I should add that in passing the Road Trucks in the opposite direction there is always a tremendous whosh and you can certainly feel the camper being pushed around. Also I would like to compliment the road constructors of the state of the roads in West Australia. They are absolutely excellent. Very few blemishes and any repairs you don’t even feel a bump. Brilliant.

  1. Hi Nomads
We are able to read your posts from our mobile phones but still unable to post comments. I have tries all sorts of options but nothing works so can only comment from work still.
The scenery really is quite stunning and your comments about the different colours of the grasses and the vastness of the landscape is very apparent from your photos. I love those long straight roads with the waves to break the monotomy. Nice roads for testing out the Audi. Those termite mounds are incredible!. You cannot imagine how something so small can build such a large structure.
We are enjoying sharing your trip and look forward to Pete man handling a large Croc in future posts!. :)

    1. Hi Carl and Pat, thanks for your comments love getting them. Yes I enjoy all the different colours the outback offered. You will have noticed that we are driving a Mercedes. Not Audi !!!!!!!! PT says his middle names are ‘Lewis Hamilton’. The road surfaces oared excellent far beyond ours. Even in the back of nowhere as long as you stay on the seal.
