Katherine - to - Pine Creek, 12th June, 2022

Left Katherine after a good three night stay. Time to catch up on the washing, which in this climate is dry in thirty to 60 minutes. And have a full day doing very little to give the driver time out and spent the day relaxing and reading. After just over 6,000kms so far driving he needed it. From now on we are doing shorter kms and more time in one place in camp. And exploring the areas around us

As we left Katherine at the entrance to the public reserve surrounding our camp. Really nice area you felt like you were miles from anywhere.

Now on the road heading north towards the top end and Darwin. But before we reach Darwin still a few more places to stop. The above photo is what this Highway in NT has looked like all the way so far. No change except where they are doing burn offs to keep the scrub down to prevent major fires. Hope it gets more interesting but at least we are seeing more greenery not so dry. Although I did love all the colours coming through the Kimberly. Never got sick of it.

About 45mins out of Katherine we stop at a very nice recreation area called Edith Falls. 19kms off the main road which was still part of the Nitmiluk National Park where we were on the boat trip in Katherine. Very well done boardwalks paths and lots of walking tracks. And main attraction is the swimming.

Flowing downstream

The bridge we are crossing gets you across the waterway photo above and where the water flows from the upper level photo below.

This is the big pool where people swim. It was early morning so just a few swimming. Water flows into this from the little waterfall in the distance.

Close up of Edith Falls. It’s not so much about the falls more the recreational area for walking trials and swimming.

Just arrived in a little town called Pine Creek popular stop over for campers. This is a Hotel resort called Railway Resort  next door to the camp site. Named after the era of the old train line that used to run through this small town. They found gold here when they were laying the telegraph lines  many many years ago which brought the town alive. Note part of the building is built like a train. We then set up camp and then went for a walk around what was left of the little town.

But now the town might be full of history but not a lot else except for the tourists to stop over on the long runs between towns. Above is the old bakery. Previous to that it was a butcher shop. I told PT that we will go and look at the old bakery and he thought we were going to come home with sticky buns.

Remains of the old steam trains, lines and station.

I took this photo of this big tree full of bats.

A close up to see them better. You just have to be careful note to walk under such a massive tree.

Back to camp had a beer and now PT is cooking the sausages and eggs.

Lasts nights dinner looks a bit of a mess. Sausages eggs and chips. We cooked the sausages and egg and then bought chips. First take away on the whole trip. Had to put this photo in as bought the chips from the hotel and this is what you get for one serving. Just as well we didn’t ask for two servings. Didn’t eat the left overs in the box.
