Port Denison / Dongara - 10th May, 2022

Today we left Ledge Point at 8.00am heading to the Twin towns of Port Denison and Dongara which are divided by the Irwin River. We like to get away from camp early to get to where we are going so we have the best of the afternoon there. We continue along the Indian Ocean Drive doing 240kms plus extra side stops. Arriving at Dongara Denison Beach Holiday Park at 2.30pm after a lot of stops. As I will explain as we go below.

The Pinnicles are in the Nambung National Park about seven kms inland from the Indian  Ocean Drive. We went to this area about twenty two years ago when we came to Perth so as we had done it then we decided to pass by. It is such a amazing place I just thought I would include it. Back when we did it you could drive your car through the park winding in and out of the Pinnicles. There are thousand of ancient limestone formations like this called the Pinnicles, which rise out of the yellow desert. They were created millions of years ago as sea shells broke down into lime rich sand. They were carried to shore and inland by waves and wind.

As we were driving up the coast today we passed so many of these large sand dunes on the coast and many that are  quite a way inland. They would have been built up probably over millions of years by the very strong westerly winds which they can experience here. The sand is so white and powdery. They fascinated me.

As we had turned off to go into Cervantes we stopped at Thetis Saline Lake. Here we saw Stromatolites which are descendants of the earliest life forms on earth. There are signs telling you to help protect these fragile structures. Saline is a mixture of chloride, sodium and water.

Before entering Cervantes township we then went out to Thirsty Point. Beautiful white powdery sand.

Above and below walking over the sand dunes looking out over the turquoise waters.

As we were entering Cervantes we stopped to take these art pieces made of rustic iron. We have seen a bit of this on our way. Like the bearded man in Bunbury which Cody you commented how you thought that was cool. Hence I took some more pictures for you to enjoy.

How would you like to catch a fish this big.

Now in Jurien Bay the next township up the coast. We walked out to the end of this fairly new Jetty. PT had a chat to some fisherman at the end of the wharf as he does. Before the new jetty was built there used to be two old jetties. In 2003 a very bad storm destroyed the two old jetties which were replaced by one new Jetty in 2004.

Out towards the end of the jetty looking back to the beach. Beautiful coloured water.

From the jetty looking along the beach.

Look at these unusual cloud formations.

Looking straight up at the clouds. Can you see the face?

This is outside our holiday park, Dongara Denison Beach Holiday Park. We are just parked back from the beach. It looks calm here but there were some big dumpers coming in this afternoon, but by the noise out there now I would say it’s a lot rougher. A lot of sea crashing sounds.

Des wanted to know if we had a toilet and shower on board. It’s on the opposite site to the kitchen just behind the dining seats. Forgot to put it in last nights blog. And of course a kitchen which yesterdays pictures showed

Now coming to the best part, we purchased some prawns to have with our steak for dinner tonight.

Dinner, steak and prawns, cauliflower and cheese sauce, asparagus and potatoes. Beautiful!!!

Not bad for a camping dinner. It was a joint effort.

You will have noticed that clouds came in today got very overcast and now it’s 8.30pm I can hear the wind has come up, we are right on the waters edge and the waves are breaking in on the beach which is a lot of  noise.
