Timber Creek - to - Katherine, 287kms, 9th June,2022

Got away early again to drive to Katherine. As we had to put our clocks forward yesterday when we crossed the border it was 6.30am WA time and 8.00am NT time and 10.30am NZ. No wonder we have been all confused today. We have booked into the Big 4 Breeze Katherine Holiday Park. Very nice spacious big sites set in a beautiful recreational area about 6kms out of town. No traffic noise and very peaceful . Another day of not much to report. Just driving stocking up at the supermarket and filling up with diesel. Big day tomorrow doing all the things we have booked in Katherine.

This map is the route we are taking in Norther Territory. BLACK dots where we will be staying. CIRCLED. National Parks that we will be going into. YELLOW highlights the road we will be driving on, bottom left shows where we flew over the Bungle Bungles. The straight black dotted line is the WA/NT border. Follow the road going right to Timber Creek is where we stayed last night. Then tonight and tomorrow night further along we are at Katherine. Then going north towards Darwin  we will turn right at Pine Creek to do the circuit around the Kakadu National Park. After that Park we will turn left and go down to the Litchfield National Park then down to Adelaide River. Then straight up to Darwin on the 19th June handing the van back on the 20th.  Then we go into Darwin for four days staying in a one bedroom apartment which will feel huge after the motorhome.

This Morning continued along the Victoria Highway. The surface of the road improved apart from a few bad stretches. At least a bit better from yesterday. After leaving Timber Creek after about an hour we drove along side these magnificent escarpments. Some of them were so high and straight down but unfortunately we couldn’t stop on the side of the road and they were mainly on the drivers side so couldn’t take them from my window.

They just keep running along the side of the road so I wish there were more places to stop to get some really good photos. The escarpments are a lot higher than the photo shows.
