Got away at 7.30am as we had a big driving day of about 380kms to get to our next destination. We can’t believe how lucky we were having the beautiful day we had yesterday up in the National Park as the day before was raining and this morning woke up to complete cloud cover which would have been disappointing for photos. We have now arrived in Denhan and on the way north the cloud started to disperse and it was then a beautiful sunny day. I have included a map showing where we are and also we crossed the latitude mark of 26 degrees. Perth 35 degrees south, Auckland 36. As we have branched out going 120kms up a peninsular to get to Denham, unfortunately we have to come back down the same way to get back on the main highway. So when we leave here after a three night stay we will be having another big driving day. It’s not as bad as it sounds as the roads mostly are just straight forever. We panic if we see a slight bend in the road. About half way we stopped at a Roadhouse and got something sweet for morning tea and made a coffee. I think that’s the first sweet thing to eat since we left the BnB. The only other stop was a beach called Shell Beach. A place I wanted to see as all the photos I have seen it shows these big shells no sand. Well it wasn’t quite like that, the shells were quite small but still no sand. It was still a beautiful spot with unusual formations on the beach as you will see in the photos. Then continue on for about another 20 kms and arrived at Denham Seaside Caravan Park. I had seen pictures of this park and notice that the grounds were all white thinking it was on sand but noticed there was no sign of any grass, it’s covered in all these small whole shells. It looks pretty good, much better than sand it doesn’t all come into the van like sand. As we are having three nights here we didn’t do a lot this arvo just walked along the waterfront to buy PT some beer after his long drive. You won’t believe it but it was his second since we arrived in Perth. He had beer at our BNB when we went to diner at their place and now just today. We love Bundaberg ginger beer and have been drinking that instead. We have a few things in mind what to do while we are here so will sort that all out tomorrow.
We have now turned off the main highway heading up the peninsular to Denham.
This is what I mean by straight roads go on and on for ever. This one we are going over a few little hills not flat as they have been
This is Shell Beach all whole shells no sand at all it’s really nice and clean.
This is what I meant about unusual formations along the beach. This part of the beach isn’t the lovely whole white shells like above. We couldn’t really work out what caused this.
These are the shells on the beach in the top photo. PT just picked up a handful and no sign of sand at all. They are so clean.
Not a bad view from the bedroom area at the back of the van. (Dave calls it a lorry)
Arrived at the Denham caravan Park. The site is all terrace up the hill. We have one other level behind us then it tapers down to the beach. I decided that being up high looking over the water would be better than being down on beach level. It’s a big complex. Tomorrow will take a photo looking back up from beach level.
This gives a better idea how it drops down suddenly to the next level. Lucky there is a fence as it is quite a long way down
Walking long the water front the boys had come back from fishing this snapper was just 50 cm and that the limit here and they only got one.
We are not sure if this means limit 2 per person or two bags what ever that would be. We will have to find out.
Some fishermen have just returned to the jetty and the fishing inspectors were there waiting.
See how there is like two peninsulas going up but the outside one is small with an island at the end of it. This is why our bay is sheltered with that barrier to protect the waters from the wild Indian Ocean on the outside of that. We are where the dot is next to the word Denham. That’s what I meant by a long way up there and a long way back to meet up with the main road. On the other side of the peninsular from where we are is a place called Monkey Mia which is meant to be very nice area but we decided to stay three nights at Denham and just drive over to see the area which is a 25 min drive. They have a lot of dolphins swimming around as they come in to be fed in the mornings. They don’t feed them all day as then they would get too lazy to feed in the wild. Until tomorrow that’s it for today.
thats a big fish

DeleteJust catching up on the travels from work. Our internet at home is not working so Pats trying to get sorted. Those photos of 'everything' are just amazing!. Love them all and so clear. I am really amazed by the variety of scenery the west coast has to offer! The shell beaches are incredible and it's probably wind storms that have created the wave effect. What an awesome trip!
ReplyDeleteSorry guys I have just picked up your message thanks for your comments
