We woke up to a sunny day after our rain and wind last night. I was so pleased as we are going up to the Kalbarri National Park which was going to be one of my highlights of the trip. With its river, gorges and great rock formations. But before we headed up there we went back to finish the 16kms south of Kalbarri that we missed yesterday afternoon when the rain came down heavy. Two more sites to see over the towering ocean cliffs plummeting to the waves below into the Indian Ocean. Lots of side roads going out from the main road going out to the sites and walks out to the cliff edge.
This is our second night at their campsite Kalbarri Red Bluff Tourist Park. A very nice place and it seems to be fairly new. They are good sites and what you see is the whole area for each site with the ensuite for your own use.
Inside the unit quite spacious.
Now back to the next place we were going to until the rain came down. They call this Eagle Gorge Lookout. Above and below. You can see the big difference from yesterdays photos. We now have sun and blue skies again.
Next site Pot Alley above and below.
Still Pot Alley.
Finished the coast sites and just arriving into Kalbarri township. Above is looking over where the Murchison River flows into the sea. The town is a little way up river.
Now for our big adventure exploring the Kalbarri National Park. We have arrived to see Nature’s Window high above the Murchison River down below.
We now have done our 500m walk down to the site. Looking over the river.
I am sitting in the Natures Window with the Murchison River flowing behind.
Looking down the river the other way
Still in the same area.
PT over the side.
Behind us is a long way down into the valley.

Now approaching the Kalbarri Skywalk. I think is only been completed a couple of years ago. |
There are two skywalks which I walked out on but this is as far PT went due to his fear of heights. I was at the end hanging over the side looking down over the river.
This is me looking over the 100m drop down to the river. The two skywalks are perched right on the cliff-top. The two lookouts project 25 and 17 metres beyond the rim of the Murchison Gorge. Great fun.
Looking down river.
Looking over to the other skywalk from the one I am on although they are further apart in distance as I zoomed in to get a closer look.
Another photo looking down river.
We have now moved on to Z bend. Although the photos don’t show it the river goes round in a z bend. Looking down from the lookout.
Another great shot looking up river
Back down from the park what a great time up there we got so many photos but of course I couldn’t show them all. Above is a beach just along the road from the camp.
Just down the road a few metres from our camp is this very wild rough beach . The photos don’t really show just how big the waves are. The beach drops away very suddenly and these massive big waves pound onto the beach with a lot of noise. They call them dumpers.
Notice the turquoise blue patch in the middle of this wave. There’s no way you could swim here.
It’s been a very exciting day we have really enjoyed it. We loved seeing how over millions of years the flow of Murchison River has created magnificent deep Red and White banded gorges through the landscape of the Kalbarri National Park.
