Big 4 Hidden Valley Caravan Park, Darwin 18th June,2022

Good relaxing day yesterday and left the Bark Hutt Inn at 8.30am as we had booked a boat trip to see the Jumping Crocodiles on the Adelaide River. Not sure re the word Jumping but they did bring their heads right out of the water when they had pork bones dangling in front of their nose. We were on the boat for over an hour and really enjoyed it. After that headed up towards Darwin and checked into the caravan park for two nights. For one purpose only and that is to pack up and clean the van before we hand her back on the 20th. Then four days in the Apartment until we leave.

My first new friend

Having a coffee before we have our boat trip to see the Jumping Crocodiles. Note the small boat that we will be in when you see how close the crocs come up near us.

This little chap was just sunbathing down in front of the cafe.

Now found another new friend. A day for making new friends.

Now on the water. The chap driving the boat feeds the crocs by dangling pork bones over the water. Some aren’t interested but most come swimming right up to the boat. He has names for them all and knows who’s who. He said they know his voice.

Swimming over to the boat for their treat.

They come out of the water so quick it’s hard to get everything in the photo.

This friendly one was right up the side of the boat.

They dangle these pork bones over the water. The crocs don’t react straight away until they sus things out and then they pounce and just before they get it between their teeth the driver pulls the bait higher in the air. So called making them jump high.

At first we thought he wasn’t interested then the jaw opens so quick gives everyone a fright.

Nearly got it, in fact he did get it then he turns around and slowly swims away.

Got the timing right here with the jaw wide open. The driver  doesn’t tease them for too long then just lets them snatch it.

He’s going to get this one.

The driver started throwing out small pieces of meat to the birds. They certainly knew what he was going to do as they came from nowhere and swooped down around the boat catching the meat in the air as they flew by.

The king of the river. This hundred year old rushed over,  no, slowly came over to the boat reacting to the chaps voice.

He was six metres long.

The driver nosed the boat up to the edge of the river bank.

Then started feeding him talking to him all the time. He recons they know his voice and come over to him.

This old timer had had enough and it was time for him to swim away photo below

Our driver moved the boat away from him. So big.

My third friend of the day. Busy day for making new friends

Now on our way up to the Darwin staying at the Big 4 Hidden Valley Caravan Park for two nights before we hand the van back on the 20th. The above photo along the side of the highway showed the airstrip that was used during the 2nd WW. It went on for several kms. I think that they have left it exposed as a tourist attraction.

It’s so hot at 33 degs, I am just about ready to jump into the pool.

  1. I did expect to see a photo of PT with his head in the jaws of a crock to show how brave he was.
